| WELCOME TO THE EXCITING SPORT OF
DANCING WITH YOUR DOG |
The enjoyable hobby of dancing with your dog is fun, exciting, challenging and it's entertaining, but most of all, it's a great way to build a unique bond between you and your best friend.
Any type of dog (old or young), and any type of breed (pedigree or pavement special), is welcome to participate. Simply put, you choreograph a dance (routine) with your dog to a chosen piece of music, by executing various tricks and movements which you have taught your dog to do.
Those wishing to take part, would do well to remember that they don't necessarily have to teach their dogs too many complicated movements, as a very good and entertaining routine can easily be put together by showcasing a few simple, yet effective movements.
Our members hail from all different walks of life, actively taking part in the sport (both competitively and for fun), with a wide variety of different breeds and cross breeds of dogs.
New members (and friends) are always welcome, as well as any enquiries about joining the club, and getting involved in our sport of dancing with your dog.

Within the sport, there are two disciplines (or categories), namely
MUSICAL FREESTYLE and HEELWORK TO MUSIC, and below is a very brief
description of the performance elements for each discipline |
| Musical Freestyle |
|
Heelwork To Music |
Any movement (between dog and handler) is allowed from any angle, as long as it does not endanger the dog or handler in any way.
Movements such as distance moves, weaves between legs or arms, jumps, send-outs, and/or any other innovative new moves are encouraged.
Movements by dog and handler may be performed from any angle.
There are no required specific moves at each level of Musical Freestyle, which makes it possible for any dog and handler, regardless of athletic prowess, to compete in Musical Freestyle, and allows full freedom in the creation of imaginative, artistic routines which showcase the bond between handler and dog as they perform and demonstrate the unique abilities of the individual dog/handler partnership.
The dog and handler team are judge on :-
(1) Artistic Impression and (2) Technical Merit.
Have a read through the RULES AND GUIDELINES found on the "competition information" page of this website. |
|
Any Heelwork To Music routine should be executed with both the dog and handler in close proximity to each other throughout the routine.
On all moves throughout the routine, the dog and handler team should move as one entity throughout the routine.
The dog and handler team should display creativity in heelwork in the specific positions and behaviours allowed within a Heelwork To Music routine.
Any Heelwork To Music routine may not include the following:-
- No distance work (no distance moves)
- No weaving of the dog through handlers legs or arms
- No jumping, horizontal or vertical, by either dog or handler
- No dog allowed to be between the handlers legs
Any Heelwork To Music routine may include the following :-
- Sustained heelwork sequences (straight, curved, circular)
- Moving or stationery heelwork done next to the other, (dog on left or right hand side of handler)
- Other creative or original moves which follow the guidelines as indicated above, and included with the RULES AND GUIDELINES which can be found on the "competition information" page of this website.
The dog and handler team are judged on :-
(1) Artistic Impression and (2) Technical Merit |
